About Us
Based in Minneapolis, MN Gyrus Medical Inc. has developed a unique bipolar system that offers unmatched versatility in electrosurgery called the PK Tissue Management System (PK). It is designed to be a safer, less expensive and a more versatile approach for cutting and coagulating tissue then traditional monopolar energy.

This business is focused on the lower abdominal surgical sectors with a wide range of PK instruments designed to cut, coagulate, resect and vaporize tissue using Vapor Pulse Coagulation (VPC). For the surgeon this technology means secure vessel sealing, reduced damage to adjacent tissue. In addition surgeons can use one energy platform instrument for many different jobs eliminating instrument exchanges and reducing time in the operating room. Benefits to the patient include: less blood loss, reduced scarring, reduced hospital stay, less post-operative pain and a faster return to normal activities.

Physicians using the PK Tissue Management System include the gynecologist, urologist and general surgeon. Gynecologist use a wide variety of PK devices in procedures such as Laparoscopic Hysterectomies, Vaginal Hysterectomies, Myomectomies, Adhesiolysis, Ectopic Pregnancy and Tubal Sterilization. Today Gyrus is the world leader in the production of devices for less invasive hysterectomy. Introduced in the 1980’s this method of helping women with uterine disease now accounts for more than 10% of the more than 600,000 procedures performed each year.

Urologist use the PK w/SuperPulse for Saline TUR in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition that affects millions of men around the world. The procedure, known as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) has been considered the gold standard for treatment for more than 20 years. The system utilizes the safety of saline allowing for safer and faster treatment of BPH and bladder tumors. The general surgeon is finding that PK technology can be of great benefit in less invasive procedures such as gastric bypass for morbid obesity, nissen fundoplication for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD/GORD), splenectomy for spleen removal, cholecystectomy for removal of the gallbladder, and appendectomy for the removal of the appendix.

The PK Tissue Management System’s smarter, more versatile bipolar technology delivers significant advantages in safety, ease of use coupled with fewer side effects and better long-term outcomes.
